Winter Solstice Celebration, Sunday 20 December 2009

It was an afternoon full of fun, laughter, noise and most of all friends, old and new – all gathered under the spine-tinglingly authentic thatch of the magnificent iron age roundhouse in Hadleigh country park. 

We gathered at 2.30, an hour and a half before sunset on the year’s longest night.  

Mark Barwell, Shaman, friend and inspiration started proceedings with an opening ceremony based on the tradition of the North American indigenous folk, inviting the spirit of the totem animals to join us from the four compass directions, with special drum beats.  …

We had a wonderful event together this solstice, our drumming circle at the Hadleigh Round House was a huge success.  Despite the snow, ice and imminent Christmas celebrations, 30 friends joined us to make music, raise their spirits and welcome in the new season. 

Our thanks extend to the wonderful Mark and family for his shamanic ritual which was a huge success with all of us, the bear, the humming bird, the kyoti and the bison symbolising our four corners and the wonderful fire pit in the centre (thanks to the warden at the park) our heart beat and the heart beat of the world!  …
