Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki is administered by “laying on of hands” – a technique which has been used for thousands of years. Reiki is a very simple but powerful technique and can be easily learned by anyone with a positive intention.
“Rei” means “universal” and “ki” means “life energy”. “Ki” energy flows through every living thing. If your life energy is low or the flow is restricted, you are more vulnerable to illness.
“Ki” is used by martial artists and yogis in their physical training and mental development. It is used in meditative breathing exercises and by Shamans of all cultures for divination and healing.
It is the consciousness called “Rei” that guides the life energy called “Ki” in Reiki. Reiki guides itself with its own wisdom rather than needing the direction of the practitioner.
Reiki is unlike any other healing method, it cannot be learned from a book. Although the hand positions and even the Reiki symbols can be read about, the real power of Reiki comes from attunements given to the student by a suitably qualified Reiki Master.
The student becomes attuned to universal healing energy. The energy can then be used for self-healing, distant healing and helping other people, animals, plants, situations.
